Our sessions at SQLBits is now available on YouTube and a list of my favorite speakers & their talks

I did quite a few sessions at SQLBits this year. Had a great time catching up with old friends, meeting new ones, learning and sharing knowledge. All the 50 and 20 mins sessions are available on YouTube now. Here is a list of my sessions with my co-workers Vuong and Marius, and the brilliantly chaotic Slide Karaoke as well. Congratulations to Benni De Jagere for winning with lots of swag and composure.

I also added in a few session that I absolute enjoyed. Hope those are useful for you too.

  1. Air Traffic Control (Data Governance) with Databricks Unity Catalog, tips, tricks and best practices

Unity Catalog is a must if you want to utilize the full power of Databricks platform. Vuong and I walked through best practices for Unity Catalog the morning after the great SQLBits party. Considering the night before, Vuong fell off a bouncing castle and hit his head, and I might have had a few drinks, I think we did really well. 🙂

2. Introducing your Databricks Flight Assistant

You will have the joy of watching us doing a live demo on Databricks Assistant on a conference wifi 🙂

3. Slide Karaoke

When Simon had the brilliant idea of doing slide Karaoke, I might or might not contributed the the slide deck for Fab Ric 🙂 A lot of chaos and a lot of fun. Happy Birthday to Simon too!

4. Generative AI: Concepts, tools, and applications for data professionals

I met Buck in last year’s SQLBits, and he has been a great mentor to me since. I couldn’t attend his session because I was being a judge on Slide Karaoke at the same time, but his knowledge and wit is not to be missed.

5. Behind the Hype: architecture trends in data

Simon did a talk with the same title last year, and the trends for this year has evolved. As always, a killer presentation.

6. A data engineer, scientist and analyst walk into a bar

A fun talk, too bad Grace had covid and couldn’t join. Also looking to join in on the fun? Can a solution architect join the club?

7. Connect Excel to Power BI Data with live connected table

Chris had so many good talks, you can see them all here https://blog.crossjoin.co.uk/2024/07/21/sqlbits-power-bi-fabric-session-recordings-now-available/

But I wanted to call out the Excel one. Given the popularity of Excel, it is super important for a data platform to have a connector to serve end users in Excel.

8. Power BI and Big Tables

Markus is my public speaking mentor and a brilliant Power BI expert. When he talks about data modelling in Power BI, it’s worth paying attention.

9. Power Hour

If there is ONE reason I join SQLBits every year, it’s the Power Hour. Good fun!

Hope you enjoy the recordings, my next speaking gigs are:

Data Scotland | 13 September | Glasgow

DataMinds Connect | 7-9 October | Belgium
